In Summary

There were no reports of fatalities over the incident.

An oil tanker was involved in an accident along the Southern Bypass near Kibera after its front driver's side tyre burst.

The Long Distance Drivers and Conductors Association (LODDCA) confirmed the incident and posted a video on X capturing the rescue efforts at the scene.

Eyewitnesses reported that the tanker lost control on the busy highway when the tyre gave out, causing the vehicle to veer off and slam into an embankment beside the road.

Good Samaritans at the scene assisted in moving the injured into an ambulance that arrived moments after the crash.

While the condition of the driver remains unclear, there have been no reported fatalities as of the time of reporting.

As is often the case, a curious crowd has started to gather at the crash site, though no one has attempted to collect any of the spilled oil.

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) urged the public to take immediate action in the event of a petroleum tanker accident.

Bystanders are advised to contact the nearest police station at 999 and the county fire department at 112.

EPRA, as part of its ongoing Kaa Safe Mtaani campaign, emphasized the importance of staying clear of the accident site for safety and allowing emergency responders to take control.

Oil transporters are reminded to familiarize themselves with the risks and characteristics of petroleum products.

They are also advised to ensure proper loading and unloading procedures to avoid spills, conduct regular inspections, and maintain their equipment.
